I am interested in knowing your opinions and experiences regarding Methylphenidate and Dexamphetamine, the good, the bad, and particularly any adverse reactions that you might have had.

I have always used Methyphenidate in the past and would sometimes rail up to 150mg a day, so I assume I have a pretty high tolerance to it. It makes me very motivated to do things and gives me compulsions to clean and organize everything in my room I don't usually have bad come-downs and I feel pretty good the next day. On the downside, it does block up my nose good and proper.

Recently though I have began using Dexamphetamine and I find that it doesn't make me motivated it simply just keeps me awake. I feel almost hungover the next day and I think I am now experiencing deeper sleep and I'm finding it harder and harder to wake up, as in I'm having to turn the volume on my alarm way high or I just sleep through it. Also, it often makes me feel sick and gives me a headache, particularly if I don't eat when using it, so I don't know if I am using too much or if my body just reacting badly to it. So far the most I have used is about 25mg at a time.

So I would like to know how these drugs make you feel and how much you take in comparison to the other. Do you rail them or eat them? Do either ever make you feel sick, if so what do you do? Have you ever overdosed or come close to it? Do you experience an instant rush or just gradually feel awake and alert? I would really just like your personal opinions on either or both.

I know that similar topics have been discussed before but I would really like to know these specific things.

Personally I found that Ritalin gave me headaches more often and disrupted my sleep more. Dexedrine, in comparison, is a far smoother med, IMO. I find that it's less of a roller coaster ride when taking it. That is, it kicks in smoothly and wears off equally so.

As for focus, I personally find the Dexedrine to have more of a 'natural' focus. What I mean is, unlike the Ritalin, I don't feel drugged into focusing on one thing. One thing I find with Dexedrine is that it doesn't last very long. I usually only get 3 hours, 4 tops out of it. I would switch to Dexedrine Spansule, but in all honesty, I find I can manage the effects of the Dex more when it's shorter acting.

The only problems I've had with Dexedrine are jaw clenching and the occasional facial tic. I also occasionally get headaches from not eating, as the Dexedrine is excellent at totally destroying any shred of appetite.

Dosage wise, I was on a fairly small amount of Ritalin when I was prescribed it, 20 mg SR plus 10 IR in the morning with a booster dose of 10 mg IR at mid-day. Currently, I take 10 mg IR Dexedrine in the morning with a 5-10 mg booster later in the day, if I need it.

I don't intend to flame/hassle you here-ok, i'm no saint, but if you are crushing up and snorting 150!!mgs methyl, you may have a problem. Surly you are not scripted 150mgs a day?. I would have a good look at my situation if i was you, and think about seeking some kinda help, if it's an issue for you, and your nasal cavities.

To give some feedback on your question, i have used both meds, and know EXACTLY what you mean in requards to Dex being less motivating, it mellows me out, makes me lazy and larthergic-i just wanna lay on my bed. methyl, i find more motivating, and sharper, making me want to read intently and focus strongly on what interests me-i don't rail it. It, i, like many others find is that it forces you to focus, while Dex allows me to, but ONLY if i make a real effort to do so.

    Good luck

I don't know what kind of Dexamphetamine you've been taking, but I've never heard someone describe it like that. Methylphenidate is terrible in my opinion. Methylphenidate makes me feel cotrolled and I get the worst mood swings. Everything irritates me when im on Methylphenidate. Dexamphetamine allows me to focus, have energy, and feel wonderful.

Well, I find banging Methylphenidate to be great. On the other hand, with Dexamphetamine I dribble urine a WHOLE lot. And I mean like puddles of piss coming off of my socks. Don't invite me over to a party uinless you want your carpet to be SOAKED.

^ My recommendation would be to avoid that combo, especially if large doses of Dexedrine or Ritalin are to be used. The risk of cardiac complications is pretty high, especially if you're taking doses like 150 mg of methylphenidate.

This combination could be done properly if you were to combine say 5-10 mg of Dexedrine with 5-10 mg of Ritalin. Applied in the right doses (i.e. small doses), it could be a pretty effective combo for focusing.

I still wouldn't advise it, though. I get the feeling that it'd definitely cause some unwanted and excessive tachycardia.

    Use both?-for use? or adder abuse?-jst askin-okey

I cruise some specialist ADD/HD sites-where folks are often treated by specialist Doc in that disorder. I read of a woman, treated with Dex 10mgs 3x daily. She found her excessive overactivity controlled, but felt her focus was not right. Her specialist adder 10mgs Ritalin to be taken with the Dex 3x daily, and she had a dramatic response. She was calm, centered+was able to easily and effortlessly focus AND remember the convosations, situations she encountered-so yes, some specialists will experiement with 2 EVEN low doses of 3!!-low dose stimulants, to take advantage of each of their specific actions, instead of just keeping on raising the dose of 1 med againand again. These specialists i imagine would be far and few between, BUT from what i'v read from these sites, and the responses of some folk, they benefit very successfully from multi-modal stim threapy.

Is this what you wanted to hear or were you wondering if 'does several stims taken together, produce a different, better..............?

    Peace

Ritalin keeps me focused, motivated, and able to stay awake the whole day. No lingering after effects such as "next-day tiredness", headache, or insomnia.

I prefer ritalin over amphetamine because it is cheaper, less addicting, more motivating, no tolerance develops (unlss you snort it) so it works the same way everyday, and it is helping me lose weight.

From my experience dex is far superior, but as shown above...its different for some.
Though often people tend to champion the one they are on/have...

    Dexedrine is heavily euphoric.
The description he gave, is basically that of a high dose of dex, or some people describe a low dose of mdma.

Without a doubt, depending on dose and frequency of use. That describes it well.

A low dose will be more motivating and useful.

but even 20mg or so...is enough to make ya just want to lay back on your bed.. maybe click around here on bluelight.. and really not do much. It can be very calming.

This is also described in a few hundred other threads on this site..

Methylphenidate = shitty upper that makes me intertain the thought of injection

Dexamphetamine = Decent the few times I have taken it

Adderall = Ok, I currently take 90mg IR a day which is a boat load and sometimes I am up for days, it effects my eating tremendously and increases the intake of some of my other scripted meds. I have been on it for getting close to a year and am happy taking 30-60mg once or twice a week or as needed but its hard when I have such a big bottle sitting in the other room and I am bored. I cant take it orally fucks my stomach up, and snorting that much powder well destroys my nose in a few days. So instead I just use oral syringes, powderize my dose in a pill crusher, fill up a oral syringe with a mL or so of water, backload the syringe with the powder but the plunger back on and shake. Than shoot up my nose, repeating a water rinse three times after initial dose, it works well.

Personally I have been entertaining the thought of switching over to Dexadrine 10mg tabs [IR], but the thought of having hundreds upon hundreds of 10mg dexies kinda makes me worried. What are others views concerning the switch between Adderall to Dexadrine?

I dont have a bad body load, or bad come downs for that matter from the Adderall but I have heard countless times that Dex is easier on the body over all than Adderall. Does anybody find that true? What are the major differences you have noticed if you have made the switch? I hear dexies are much more euphoric but I dont get much euphoria from Addies these days just sleepless nights and sometimes extreme paranoia. I assume that Dex will carry the same basic traits but are they less pronounced that Adderall? Does tolerence come into play as much, I am immune to the Adderall mostly and it seems after I fill my script its just about 3 days of feeling pretty good before the tolerence kicks in and the negative traits [sleeplessness, which I counteract with sleeping meds, paranoia, not eating healthy or at all, etc.] What are your pro's and con's for Adderall vs. Dexidrine? I take Anime-3 [prescription vitamin combo] and Gluitathione 250mg w/ Vit. C to help with nutrition and liver damage.

    Adderall 30mg IR
Dextroamphetamine Saccharate - mg 7.5 mg
Amphetamine Aspartate Monohydrate - 7.5 mg
Dextroamphetamine Sulfate USP - 7.5 mg
Amphetamine Sulfate USP - 7.5 mg
Total amphetamine base equivalence - 18.8 mg

    Dextrostat [Dextroamphetamine Sulfate tablets 10mgs]
    Dextroamphetamine sulfate USP - 10mg

    Dexidrine [Dextroamphetamine Sulfate tablets 5mg]
    Dextroamphetamine sulfate USP - 5mg

Dexedrine/Dextrostat is all dextroamphetamine, Adderall is both dextroamphetamine and amphetamine. I know that dextroamphetamine is metabolised faster than Adderall, which is why most doc's script Addies. My doctor constantly tells me dont take my Adderall with acidifying agents [Fruit juices, caffeine, etc.] as it will increase the amount absorbed and help to contribute to faster metabolism of the amphetamine. I definetly want to go with the IR form of dextroamphetamine which is available in the 2 forms I mentioned above, Dexidrine tablets [orange diamonds], and Detrostat tablets [yellow circles], correct? Also are the 10mg IR are only available as Dextrostat tabs?

Does the Dexidrine seem to leave your body quicker to you? Comparable to Adderall or faster. Also since the negative feeling amphetamines in Adderall are gone in the Dexidrine, do you really notice a difference in the feeling of the drug? Or is it mainly just a first couple weeks thing than goes away?

One more thing how many people take there Addies/Dex with Sodium Bicarbonate [i.e. Baking Soda] to try to increase absorbsion? Do you find it works? How much do you take? etc? Also what about generic availability are both brands [IR] available in other generics than the name brand? I would assume so, if so what are the costs per tablet 5mg generic Dexidrine and the 10mg Dextrostat? What is a good brand of generics, I find that Barr generics suit me just fine for generic Adderall and have definetly noticed a difference with other generics.

    Currently I pay $38 for #90 - 30mg IR [Barr]

What would be the equivilant dosing in IR dextroamphetimines? A couple hundred count 10mg IR's? What do you pay for your Dex? I dont use insurance on any of my meds that seem abusable or make it seem like I am a drug user/abuser in recovery. Sorry for the ramble...

I have been prescribed both of these substances to combat ADD.

Now as for the ADD part, ive seen both substances be effective but this varies from one individual to another.

As far as being recreational, Dexamphetamine offcourse has a much higher recreational value than ritalin for the simple reason that it is a stronger stimulant and if your into stims, the stronger the better.

None of these substances are going to provide any form of euphoria in the traditional sense, if you consider staying awake and grinding your teeth fun you will probably think its great.

^^ ugh. silly generalizations. Personally, no drug has ever made me grind my teeth, and only one drug has ever made me clench my teeth, and its not a stimulant.

In regards to the threads topic, I prefer methylphenidate. I've experimented with nootropics from time to time in the past. I've always received them second hand as I've never been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. The times I have used them were all generally around the end of the semester to help keep me focused on studying for finals.

This past weekend I got a few Concerta from a friend. I ate them straight up the first few days I used them. I got the 54s and I'd generally eat one and then take another anywhere from 30 min to 2 hours later. Little did I know that Concerta brand methylphenidate comes in a controlled release tablet, which explains why I was able to stay up till ungodly hours of the morning studying before I got tired enough to sleep (although I attribute a good chunk of that to my erratic sleep schedule which usually has me up at ungodly hours anyway.)

What I liked about the methylphenidate compared to an amphetamine based nootropic was that it made it blatantly easy for me to concentrate on studying. I spent the better part of 3 and a half days with my head in a psychology book, and for someone like myself who has a tendency to get distracted, being able to sit in the living room with my roommates while they finished a round of poker, with the TV on and just study, was genuinely rewarding.

I've taken Adderall in the past as a study aid and found myself unable to sit still. It gave me a general motivation to do something but when my efforts were put towards studying, I was no more capable of resisting distraction than I was without the drugs.

Methylphenidate gave me a general sense of satisfaction and almost a mild euphoria. Sitting there with my book and study papers in my hands, I found myself completely content with the situation even though there wasn't anything specific that was happening to warrant such a mindset. It also gave me a 'body buzz' of sorts similar to that of a sleep aid like diphenhydramine hcl. My body "felt" very chill and relaxed. I always felt very comfortable and rarely had to shift my posture.

Now last night after I got back from my last final, my roommate and I agreed to take one of the pills, crush it up, split it into two lines and see if they had any effect. After eating 54-108mg daily for the last few days, insufflating a mere 22mg (approx) had little affect.

One of the side effects that bothered me, although it only bothered me considering the circumstances, was that it made me very sociable, which was possibly the only distraction from studying I had. By all means I like socializing, but in that case it was kind of an annoyance.

The other side effect that bugs me, although its obviously to be expected of stimulants, was the difficulty sleeping, especially the first couple nights before I learned that the stuff I got was an Extended Release.

The two I have left I removed the shell, crushed and put into tissue paper. I'll try parachuting it and see how the effects of 108mg of Immediate Release due to parachuting compares to the 108mg of ER I've done the last couple nights.

    ^^^^^^

Thank you for standing up for methylphenidate. Those of us that prefer it over adderall are always put down and are dismissed as if we do not know what we are talking about.

Methylphenidate is one of the best stimulants. It's cheap, non-addiciting, no tolerance (if you do not snort it), and completely euphoric (for me at least).

Yeah for methylphenidate!!!!!!.....My drug of choice

methylphenidate is designed to comedown quick. but thats why it orally sucks and cause bad comedowns and most people like it to start off with but after not long hate it. and prefer dex. methylphenidate works on the same receptors as cocaine in fact but that is neither here nor there

Methylphenidate is definitely my favorite prescription drug. I never experienced any comedown on it, and definitely prefer it to adderall. It's a lot more coke-like, and for me, was a lot more euphoric. Another aspect is that the difference between oral and nasal bioavailability is a lot greater for methylphenidate than for adderall, so if you're looking to have a good time it's more bang for your buck.

^Dextroamphetamine is S-Amphetamine. Adderall contains a mix of optically pure S-amphetamine and racemic amphetamine salts. They're not the same.

I can only compare Methylphenidate to Adderall, as I have never had access to pure dextamphetamine....

For me, Ritalin is a great study aid for about 2-3 hours tops. I'm talking about the instant release kind, of course. I get my work done and feel pretty good, and the comedown isn't bad at all. However, if I crush Ritalin up and rail it, doses as low as 30mg (no tolerance) can have horrible comedowns involving near panic-attacks and severe anxiety. For this reason, I will never rail Ritalin again. The best part about instant release Ritalin is that I can easily get to sleep within 4-5 hours after taking it.

Adderall is a completely different story. I have tried both IR Adderall and Adderall XR and both make me achieve a type of focus completely unlike Ritalin. It provides some euphoria and sense of well-being, although after I take it I often find myself getting off-task and researching trivial information unrelated to my work. However, I do become extremely nit-picky and perfectionistic in whatever I am doing and nothing works better for pulling all-nighters. Unfortunately, the comedown is far worse than Ritalin for me and I desperately need some benzos or Ambien to fend off the anxiety and insomnia that is destined to follow.

Note: I am not diagnosed with ADD/ADHD and take Ritalin and Adderall mostylu as a means to motivate myself to get homework done and study for exams. Only very occasionally do I use either substance recreationally.

    No they are not, erowid.org.

Bagochina: At the height of my use, I was prescribed 45mg Dexedrine IR (plus 30mg ER, which I never bothered with). To my knowledge (and to the Doctor's knowledge, it seems), there is no Dextrostat 10mg in Canada. So, the label on my bottle said, "TAKE 7 PILLS, 3 TIMES A DAY AS NEEDED". It was hillarious. (Of course, when you're addicted you never follow directions, and my last dose before stopping was 12 pills. For convenience, I'd dissolve them and take them rectally.)

    It wasn't pretty

I personally tried Adderall only once a long time ago, and found it more effective than dex (or meth for that matter - I find methamphetamine to be the most useless) in terms of motivation, however it had too many physical side-effects at just 20mg, so I don't think it is healthy for high-dose use.

Not that any amphetamine is healthy.
