Stuck On Earth presents Mardi Gras NYC style
    March 15, 2003
Despite being an experience that was born deep in tradition, no one knows exactly how the Mardi Gras carnival came into being. Some scholars say it's origin can be traced to the orgies that were held in the Roman Empire - but then again, that could be pure speculation.
Nevertheless, we know that in the early 1700's the French of New Orleans were holding elaborate balls where guests were encouraged to wear a mask. But when the Spanish government took over, parties and street dancing were banned. Imagine that!
It wasn't until 1827, when Americans were in power, that the right to party in masks was restored, and with this new found freedom, elite parties began resurfacing again.
In many ways, this history parallels our own scene and culture and provides hope for our future. Come celebrate with us the joy that is music, and the spirit that is Mardi Gras!

maybe your friends shouldn't be so blatantly fucked up at SOE parties.
I'm sorry... this is just too funny. Your friends *always* get robbed? How long have you been going out? Wouldn't your friends stop supporting SOE after the first incident? I would. My backpack got stolen at a Monkey party in 99. Guess what? I stopped leaving my shit on the floor. If your friends are getting robbed all the time, I doubt it has anything to due with SOE security and more to do with the stupidity of your friends.

Please remember that security is supplied by the venue, the only time we used our own security team was at the South Street seaport event and both events at randalls island

Yeah Partykid, SOE has nothing to do with with your friend getting robbed. Non-the-less... SOE IS a pretty shady crew, but they're not THAT bad. There are much worse. This does seem like a pretty generic line up though, and Tony Draper? WTF?! Lunatarium is getting SOOOO played out. It's becomeing to NY what Asylum is to MASS. Sure it's a good venue, but must we have EVERY party there?

    Thumbs up
Despite how anyone feels about Spacegirl, I've always enjoyed her at a party. A lot of her songs are held near and dear for mostly sentimental reasons, but she still adds a certain energy to the party.
I haven't seen her "perform" in a while and I would be interested in seeing her again. Plus, I'd like to see what the renovations to the Lunatarium are like now. It seems everytime I go there's something else modified.

Although this is a very dope lineup it doesn't really compare to how dope Mardi Gras is. I went this past weekend for my first dose of Mardi Gras and I can honestly say that is was one of the dopest weekends I have ever had. I also got to experience first hand the legendary State Palace Theatre. The State Palace is everything I had thought it would be and more. Sorry about the off topic, Mad Props on the very dope lineup.

To bad Northeast people don't have shit better to do then Hate on people. If the weak mods are not gonna say it, I am. Keep the Drama off the boards.
Just be glad you've got a tight little underground venue. I always have fun and meet cool kids when I go to a SOE party. We all know damn well that this line up is worth at least $25.
I hope that everyone has a good time at the show.
    Peace,
    Drew

Everyone is going to have an opinion about production companies and far be it from us to disallow discussion of those companies.
If anyone has comments to make I think they should be free to make them given they aren't overly inflammatory. SOE has a certain history, and though it's been an "in" thing to bash them, open discussion is important to allow party goers to decide who they wish to support or not.
In general, you'll find people more likely to share their views where they feel they've been wronged than where they've had an amazing experience. This is applicable to more than just parties.
This venue is FAR from underground. And rarely is any lineup worth more than $20, especially from a venue that has, in the past, consistently charged less. Nonetheless, we still pay the price because commercialism has forced face value up and we simply accept it.
