Music festival thread! When and where?

Eclipse in July and Harvest in September but I don't think either are happening again this year. Hope I'm wrong.

I don't think anything is going to happen this year. Gatherings that large are not allowed basically anywhere yet. Late summer / fall maybe. We'll have to see how the next few months play out. Every time cases go down and they lift restrictions, they only go right back up.

I think I'm gonna have to hit up Bonnaroo depending on the lineup. I haven't been since 2010.

Got a few that are supposed to happen, small bass music festivals, not sure I wanna say em though...

I’m hopeful with the numbers dropping rapidly we’ll see some type of events this summer.

I’m freaking out honestly with no high end systems to listen to.. I plan on buying a pair of 1,000$ speakers (I know nothing compared to some higher end speakers, but a lot for me to drop still) this summer to finish off my system, just Incase we get fucked on another summer of fun. I’ll at least have high quality sound for me and my family/friends :)

Idk bout you guys but the rigs used at a festival are as important to me as the artists that play. I can listen to any music at home, but it’s the sound rig that brings it alive in a way that cant be felt with a home system. God it depresses me just thinking of being deprived for an undetermined amount of time.

I mean, yeah the extreme rigs are great and a definite part of the experience, but it's a lot more than just the choons coming out of them that we can play at home if need be.

It's the atmosphere. Dancing with others. Having it outside.

Though, yeah, speaker fucking is a real thing so.......:D

I mean, I guess I do have access to a farm and have had my own mini fests there in the past which I guess I can fall back on....but I'd prefer the bigger ones to come through.

Very very true. It’s amazing how comfortable I feel in that setting, I become a lot more extroverted and had some conversations (sober and not) that have stayed with me.

Actually right before the pandemic I was at a show and walked past this guy that I instantly recognized and he did me, we had to sit a second to think but then I remember I had met him 8yrs ago at a festival, we got held up for an hour from the rain and got into the deepest convo I’ve ever had with a stranger. It was so good seeing him again, we partied up together the rest of the night and maybe I’ll never see him again but it’s moments like that which you don’t get often in normal life.

My best friends are all met through the festival scene.

I’m also all about the mini fest scene anyways, I guess because the reasons you stated. A sense of community that really gets lost as a festival gets bigger. Small festivals can much better weed out bad drugs, bad oeople, etc..

Oh man, this gave me goosebumps, just thinking about some of the people I've met at festivals.

Including a dude from Reno one year at WEMF who, three years later, as I was driving through Reno on the way to Colorado from San Francisco let me stay at his place for a week. Just rang him up because he had given me his number and told me to ring him up if I was ever in town (in fucking Reno! hahaha) Chilled with him when he wasn't at work. Met his mates. All because I love giving out pints at festivals! :D

Fucking right!! That's beautiful.

I can say the same, though through raves in general....and at this age, we've weeded out the real degens/bad apples long ago.

I've found that it depends on the festival. All festivals I've been to have the community vibe. There have been various levels of sketchiness though, and those are indeed more common at larger festivals, but I don't think there's a correlation between size and level of sketch. At least not here in Canada.

I love making rando friends....even if it's just for a day or five. I've met some people at festivals that I've connected with so well it's like we've been friends for years after an hour of yapping. It's amazing. Don't quite get the same effects at the pub. ;)

[x] in [y] and [z] in [a] but I don't think either are happening again this year. Hope I'm wrong.
This
I’ve got a couple tickets from last year that were pushed to this but unfortunately I can’t see many festivals happening this year, not just eclipse and harvest lol

Unless we’re forced to show proof of vaccination or something

So one of the festivals I was gonna hit decided to try and run off with everyone’s money. The “owners” were cocky assholes that thought they could just cancel with zero effort and no refunds. They deleted all contacts, Facebook, websites, etc.

Let’s just say they’re getting fucked majorly in return, me and my people aren’t the types to try and pull this. The company that sold the tix is decent enough to give refunds, and the two owners have been doxed well. One owner will likely lose his job over this, and the other probably is going to face hardships finding people to work with his music career in the future. I can guarantee they’ll be facing an audit at least too.

Lesson is. Don’t come to the Midwest from Cali and think you can pull some shit on us “dumb” farmers. It won’t end well for you...

Whats really interesting is running into people you met in Greece in India, or people you met in south America in Europe, etc. Has happened a lot to me, even amongst big crowds. Even running into friends of friends, hanging out, then running into the person together without realizing they were even on the same continent, all from different ones. The synchronicity can be immense :O

A few hidden gems in there, Foo, incubus, disco biscuits, deftones...alongside acts that are a poor reflection on what it takes to make it in the music industry.
Deftones one of my favorites, seen them twice before. I'd go just to see them again. Seen all the other acts you mentioned. Haven't dived into the lineup too much yet, but I'm definitely interested in going. Been too long since I've done a festival.
