The prompt is: Battle

Olé!

"Dorthy"
She loved her ruby slippers
Clicked her heels
Once
Twice
In home and hearth she clicked those heels
She clicked her heels
Till the man came

There's no place like home
When the man comes
He yells
Once
Twice
This time when he comes he won't yell
He leaves his letter on the door

There's no place like home
Where friends are buried out back
She says goodbye
Once
Just Once
She packed away her picnic print blouse
The last dandelion gifted

There's no place like home
Eyes wide on the couch for two years
She drives her palms into ribs
Thirty
Two
Aunt Em kissed a paramedic
Aunt Em joined Uncle Henry

There was no place like home
There was no place like home
There was no place like home
So once
Then twice
She clicked her heels

"Prose"

Half man
but mostly stick figure.
I'm searching for a bigger picture
with additional drinks,
but no dinner.

The battle outside is one
that no man escapes from,
But

My own silhouetted monkeys
scribble away with prose;
"The War of Kafkaesque Turmoil:
and everything he knows".

Forged

She reached for the stars she couldn't find. Greg's absence left her far behind. A breaking point had come and gone. Many sleepless nights. Toss over, restless one. Christmas songs aren't meek or mild. Stuck within her childhood 'Home' Autism's scar alone. She's so proud of her younger brother, Now on His hand an infinity band. She admires her sister, who finished her degree. Raised two children despite her grief. How strong were her parents, to endure autism's shame? Burns mar and scar masking her pain. Few see her translucent wheelchair, she appears OK why should they care? Yet at her core, an infinity stone. Forged from pressure, formed alone.

Selective

If you act on your desires
You'll only spread the fires
Starting war inside your mind
Misunderstanding friends defined

So don't you beg to be heard
And your love shall shine inward
There's always someone here with you
It's yourself, and that's the truth

Friends are all around
Don't be so selective
Some roles may feel unfulfilled
But that won't make you defective

Birds fly all around
And they are not selective
Wishing company of each other
Their love is felt collective

Silent night

Liquor elixir for provolone Jones.
Dig up the dirt to bury some bones.
Plant a seed to grow a flower
I guess we've reached our final hour.
It's a shame the end is near,
and the reward is a case of beer.
For all those who help to fight
I sing a song called silent night.

Poem

As Reagan once said, "just say no," But it seems that advice was lost in the flow Of drug money and temptation, a powerful foe The battle was lost, the war on drugs a no-go

We listen to rap about the game and the hustle But the game changed, and the stakes became a tussle The government tried to intervene and muscle But the dealers kept dealing, the addicts still in a rustle

USA... Where the drug trade was rampant and the cost steep The government's efforts, in hindsight, seemed cheap As the war on drugs proved too big to keep

The crack epidemic of the '80s and '90s Caused devastation, families torn, and lives in pieces But the government's response was ineffective and pricey The battle was lost, and the war on drugs seemed dicey

The war on drugs became a war on people As incarceration rates soared, but the problem still lethal The government lost sight of its goal, and the sequel Was a system that failed, and a nation still unequal

So as we reflect on the failures of this goverments past Let's hope that the future brings change at last A focus on rehabilitation, not just a cast Of punishment, and a system that's built to profit off our fight to escape this failed reality.

Isolation

I try talking to the wall
But it never answers back
Just my own echo down the hall
Wasted words that fade to black

Like a shadow on the window shade
That the lonely midnight moon has made
And when I see that mean old morning sun
I know another endless day has just begun

I try talking to the sky
But it just looks down on me
And though I wish that I could cry
That's not how I was raised to be

I always feel as though I have no right
To complain about the lonely night
And when there's something that I need to say
Nobody's here to hear me say it anyway.

Song tile (not so much poetry)

Don't ask me if I like it,
Don't ask me if I care,
Ban that stuff to morrow and I'll buy some more today
A gram of this a gram of that, there's enough to share.
Put it in my needle I've got lots of veins to spare...

Untitled

A love that so often brought peace to my mind-
A heart that could always the brighter side find-
Thoughts brighter than stars on a midsummers night-
But just one last battle that you could not fight-
Your true love had passed and you were so worn-
And I worried that soon you too would be gone-
Then I never got to really say my goodbye-
And I pray to the Lord to help me understand why-
But I've seen you living with all of your might-
And that one last battle that you could not fight...

I love you more than words can tell mom

I might try to submit something I've posted before in the Lounge rap battle thread (it was just a "rap" I posted, not a battle). I have a lot of them I love actually. But not sure if that's appropriate or if I'm supposed to come up with something new. For some reason my ability to come up with poetry has been abysmal for a while.

I don't fully understand what you mean by "prompt" Does that mean the subject of my poem should revolve around the chosen promt and it's context ?
