Advice Does sexual interest drop after 40 or what?

Sexuality is what people make of it. If you are interested in maintaining a high sexuality later in life, for some it means doing more work. There are hormonal reasons for sexuality to taper off with age, but these can be treated to a certain extent. Unfortunately there are medication side effects that can impair sexuality, and that is a trickier subject, as it is hard to justify stopping life prolonging treatment for the sake of libido. But then there is how one cultivates one’s sexuality. I think open and creative minds can enjoy an ever developing sexuality until the end of their days. Their is no limit to what the mind can do, and that is our most important sexual organ.

Unfortunately many men chalk up sex to penile performance. This is a problem, because it won’t necessarily last and because the penis, while easy to understand (ie no one teaches boys how to jerk off, compared to some women who can spend decades trying to figure out how to have an orgasm) is just the tip of the iceberg. Enter the prostate… men in their 60s-80s who get into prostate play describe a renewed sexual energy akin to that of their youth!

Of course everyone’s personal responses are anecdotal, but my 42 year old wife is at the peak of her sexuality and she says it gets better and better for her. And though I am only 36, and though my whole life has been one hot sexual fiesta (compared to hers, at least), I feel the same. That is, I frequently think to myself “THAT was hands down the best sex I’ve ever had.” And despite all the sex I’ve had, I often think to myself “huh I’ve never done/felt THAT before.”

Another enjoyment of a mature relationship resides with the ability to explore sexual curiosities without insecurities. I don't know how many times I've triggered some poor inexperienced soul with tales of my sex life only for them to realize that they are the ones stuck in their feelings.

This part of a relationship that allows a person to be who they are without projecting insecurities is called love. Who is to say that it is wrong? Might as well give them something to talk about.

Hi all,

I’ve noticed my sexual urges have dropped in recent years at 40 or over, when I jerk off it doesn’t feel good as it used too, feels weak and is no more exciting than a rich tea biscuit. I find women not that attractive anymore and modern porn is all the same and nothing new anymore, is it that I’m getting old now and I’ve worn my penis out and got Erectile dysfunction now? But if I got a real woman now I wouldn’t really perform. Have you over 40 guys noticed this or is it just me?

After 40 years?? Mines drops about 2 seconds after I cum

Guys start losing their libido from their early-mid twenties, so by 40, I's assume. yes. You can try - assume you have zero cardiac issues - viagra, which is available OTC in the UK, now.
Even if you don't have a partner, you can still use it to can more enjoyment out of masturbating.

I'm 42 and my sexual interest is as good or as level as it ever has been. Sexual drive is another matter, throw a few meds in, and I either can't finish at all...or I finish in seconds which is deeply embarrassing but I'm beyond caring now really. I could probably get some sort of med combo to combat it but my GF just left me so I don't/can't give a fuck. Edit : Coke normally helps, a lot...bone or powder.

I'm 40 and have rare interest in sex or maturbation. When I do either it's easy to get hard and come quickly if I want to. It feels just as good.

I chalk it up to opioid addiction throughout my late twenties and thirties. I think it did something to me. It's somewhat mental too not just lowered testosterone. Like I didn't care about sex for so long due to drugs that sex is like awkward or something now.

OP get your testosterone checked ..I'm 50 and mine was super low from years of opiates and I just started dating a hot 27 yr old and the anxiety even before we got together was intense knowing that after the first month or so of sex , I would start to lose interest so I did research and now only a few weeks after my first injection I feel like I'm 20 again... More energy, better sleep and a big hard cock for my chick. Lol. Seriously it's amazing

I'm the same I'm 44 and my sex drive has went through the roof but the stamina has gone down some but it has there most of my adult life....update I'm 46 and my stamina is better then ever so I'll say for me at least the 40's have been great!!!!!

55 year old male here & still going strong! Ive had a super high libido since about 12 years old & while it's not quite what it used to be, my 38 year old nymphomaniac gf assures me I'm doing great, even compared to some of her previous sexual partners who were in their 20's & 30's, so I'll take that!

I should add, that I work out regularly & consider my health & fitness to be great for my age. A balanced healthy diet definitely adds to the effect. Also, I'm on TRT (testosterone replacement therapy) & will occasionally pop a cialis 10 to 20mg if needed. I enjoy a spliff once or twice a week & we both like to drop a little MDMA for some uninhibited passionate sex. Which reminds me, I'm due round to hers in a couple of hours!

My sexual interest is zero.Probably because vupr&zoloft....and feel way better, believe or not

Im 40 and my sex drive is the same as it was when i was a teenager really. Sometimes if i take alot of zopiclone my sex drive will go down but that's pretty normal

I’m 42 and my sex drive has never been higher, personally. Honestly, it only went up and up over the years…and I am getting off a bunch of different meds right now and it turns out that…YUP…those meds actually SUPPRESSED my ability to orgasm to a degree, and now that I’m going off them I’m going absolutely bonkers with hormones. It’s like a second time being a teenager….arghhh

I couldnt get it up on abilify it was fucking awful or on invega. But when i was switched to latuda my sex drive came back full force thankfully.

I was prescribed abilify and…I never even took it!!! I was scared to…it just seemed way too extreme a drug. And I’m glad I didn’t, because I was heavily overmedicated at the time, and perfectly able to function on just a few lesser things. But now that I’m coming off those, my own mind scares me :(

In your 40's? Not in my experience

My 40's were like a second late teens to late 20's experience. Libido was through the roof after I managed to remove myself from an ltr in which I didn't want to go anywhere near my partner sexually for the last couple of years of it. Had a 7 year relationship in my 40's which was off the scale sexually.

50's completely different kettle of fish (for me anyway). Big libido drop, which I'm perfectly fine about. It's interesting in its own right and kinda frees up the mind somewhat, imo/ime anyway. It's not completely gone - but it's lost it's power over me (not that I was aware of it really having any power until that power lessened - then it was clear). I reckon it would return if I got into another serious relatonship (definitely not hankering after that though, but you never know). I've lost all interest in any casual sex though except when taking stims, but thats all over with now too hopefully (but wouldn't exactly be a shock if I used again in the future in hopefully isolated instances)

Er, it would have to be 'what'! At almost 60, I have to say the spirit is still very willing, but the flesh is pathetically weak (and requires a handful of drugs to be as entertaining as when I was 30)
