Extracrion of ephedrine from pills

Probably to some extent, but the extraction yield would be quite poor. Ephedrine is fairly polar and doesn't extract well with non-polar solvents. Ethyl acetate works, but it absorbs a lot of water and all sorts of crap. TBME is great.

I'm assuming you mean in an alkaline extraction.

Uhm...Ethyl acetate...I can get it quite easily. Gassing HCl on it would give me some crystals of ephedrine hcl, or would it just dissolve into the EtAc?

Ethyl acetate will hydrolyse if exposed to acid or base.

I think you are best off doing a water extraction, you are obviously ill-equipped to carry out a "real' one.

It's a strong base and in freebase form it dissolves in water, unlike freebase cocaine. Why would you want to take ephedrine everyday? It's so bad for your heart...
