John Williams - Superman
John Williams - The Empire Strikes Back
Maurice Jarre - Lawrence of Arabia

hodgepodges:
2001: A Space Odyssey

O Brother, Where Art Thou?
The Commitments
Wings of Desire
Traffic
Until the End of the World (too bad the movie really sucks)
American Graffiti

The Dust Brothers did a good job with the Fight Club soundtrack. The Pixies track was the cherry on top.

Does Dark Side of the Moon/Wizard of Oz count?

No? :\

Garden State

The Superfly soundtrack was pretty awesome. Shout out to Curtis Mayfield.

Good call on O Brother, Where Art Thou? btw.

NEMD ==> F&T ==> The Lounge

Not sure of ALL the artists, mostly the cat who did the rugrats music,

But The Royal Tenenbaums.

In no particular order...some of my favorite soundtracks (I even have the others on CASETTE TAPE!)

I think there are two categories, musical and non-musical movie soundtracks.

Non-Musical:
The Virgin Suicides
The Royal Tenenbaums
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
Kill Bill: Vol. 1
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Vanilla Sky
O Brother, Where Art Thou?
The Graduate
Good Will Hunting
Magnolia
Pulp Fiction

Musical:
The Sound of Music
Meet Me in St. Louis
Hello, Dolly!
The Music Man
Mary Poppins

^Solid list through and through.

Almost forgot about:
Zabriskie Point, another awful film with a wonderful soundtrack.

Iarla Ó Lionáird - I Could Read The Sky
- haven't seen the movie (not that easy to find in the States), but I have the book and the soundtrack, and both are great. Sinéad O'Connor does a couple of great traditional pieces on this one.

Human Traffic has some cool tunes in it.

That movie introduced me to Come Together by Primal Scream, Cafe Del Mar and It Aint Gonna Be Me by CJ Bolland, and Belfast by Orbital works amazing in the comedown scene.

Original: Star Wars

Liscensed: Pulp Fiction, Notorious even though the movie sucked ass

I just finished watching Watchmen and half way through the movie it just hit me, this movie has an awesome soundtrack!

Eternal Sunshine is my favorite by a big margin. A lot of those that were mentioned are great. Jon Brion (the man behind the Eternal Sunshine soundtrack) did a lot of other good work. I Heart Huckabee's soundtrack & his private music are also very good. High Fidelity had some great music in it. There were a lot of indie-ish romance-ish flicks that had killer soundracks about five-ten years ago. Empire Records comes to mind.

Ocean's 12 I wouldn't have remembered but it was an awesome soundtrack too.
