I know it's supposed to be about vanity, but I always heard "mirror in the bathroom" and thought coke, it's got coke vibes too, but so did almost all alternative in this period lol



 
For some odd reason they were publicized as English Beat in US, FUBAR. I used to spin their records all the time starting around 1978. Just chalk it up to one of those those UK / American differences like tubes/ valves.
