I played Wordle for a while, but it gets pretty mindless and repetitive. Instead, I've become hooked on Redactle!

You start with a Wikipedia article from its "Vital Articles" collection (so nothing terribly esoteric) in which all but a few common words have been redacted. The goal is to find the topic of the article. To do this, you guess one word at a time, and if the word is in the article, all instances of it will be revealed. You're scored on both the number of guesses it takes you to get to the answer and the proportion of your guesses that are actually in the article.

Try it out, see if you like it, post your scores if you want! :)

Today was my best one yet!

I had a leg up since the topic is in my field.

I was flying high yesterday. Now I'm an idiot.

It's your lucky day, Mal! I got to "sport" in nine but even with the NHL playoffs happening my mind couldn't get off of sunny fields.

I oddly had the urge to put 'ice' as my second or third word and didn't.

Ooh, I'll have a go at that 🤓

Errr.. Maybe not. How on earth can you guess with so many words removed??

I play a lot of online Scrabble. The app is a nightmare and I pay monthly to have all the ads removed. It still tries to suck money out of me 😣 I'm in the top 5% though.

You can see the number of letters in a word by highlighting it, which helps. Look for unusual word and phrase shapes that might give you a hint.

For example, I recognized that ___-___-_-____-____ was probably "one-, two-, six-, or ten-and-a-half-something" and that led me somewhere useful.

lol I spent like 60 guesses on scientific words. I didn't know the thing about highlighting words and it telling you how many letters. I hope that works on mobile.

This one was brutal... I knew it was a poet by guess 2 and that he was English by guess 11 but could not think of any English poets. Spent tons of guesses on four-letter male first names and even fished for initials by guessing every letter of the alphabet. I was starting to worry I might never figure it out when I happened to guess "lord" and then it clicked.

I did pretty good today
