Hi there. I'm turning to bluelight for some much needed help.

Long story short- was living in Melbourne and went onto the monthly sublocade injection (300mg). It's worked perfectly for me and was on it since maybe October ish 2021.

I moved back to my home state, Tassie, in March 2022 and now live in Hobart.

My GP in melb told me no one does the bupe depot shot in Tas so I've been flying back and forth monthly to have it done.

Just less than a month ago I found out that sublocade, plus the other one, IS done in Tas so I contacted the government drug & alcohol team in New Town, Hobart. My first chat sounded positive and they indicated I could be seen by them as an interstate transfer. After about 3 weeks of phone tag some dude called and rudely said I've gotta be wait listed like everyone else and it could take 2 weeks or 10 months. Plus they don't accept patients on benzos (I'm only on 7.5mg daily of Valium!)

I accept that I should wait my turn but was annoyed that they indicated I'd be green lighted to see them immediately.

The most frustrating part of all of this is they can't tell me any names of private GP's or specialists that do Sublocade injections. Yes, they've confirmed that there are doctors in Hobart that do it but I'm not allowed to know who. WTF?

I'm sure I found my Melbourne gp when I rang some support line when I was really crook and the guy I spoke to gave me a ton of doctors names.

I've just got back from Melbourne yesterday ( $600 poorer after flights, GP fee and ubers) and asked my doc for help with names but I didn't get the vibe that she'd have much luck, plus she's flying OS on Monday for 3 weeks.

Sublocade has changed my life, I'm back home with family and totally drug free aside from the odd joint. As great as it is though I can't keep spending $200-$400 a month on flights, plus it's a pain in arse having to fly over.

I haven't really kept my story short like I said I would - my bad. Any help would soooo be appreciated, even if someone can DM me if not wanting to post publicly with doctors details.

Maybe someone might know how to find any prescribers in Hobart even without giving out their names.

Thanks heaps to all that might read this and even bigger thanks if someone can help in any way possible.

Much love, ♓girl xxoo

I dont know if methadone clinics still exist, but if you cant get a name of one., Maby go down there and ask around or even ask someone who works there, could be easier asking in that scene. I dunno, could be a waste of time though, Good luck on your search!

Will get back to you via pm in the next day or two mate

, do ibogaine or switch to heroin/another opiate for a week and quit altogether. You just need some gabapentin, lyrica and loperamide to sweat it off. Stop wasting your money on thst shit.

Yea while I understand the desire for the shot, any way you can get the pills or strips instead? Have you tried this with little success?

Hey GC,

I've tried the strips before but it was only for about 2 weeks max. They worked for me fine but I'm not keen on daily visits to the chemist. Besides, if I did change over to strips I still have the same problem ... I'm stuck on the waitlist before I can see anyone regardless of the treatment type. Thanks for the suggestion though💛

Hey PiscesGirl!
I have recently started on Suboxone and getting my first Sublocade Injection tomorrow. I live in Launceston, Tasmania and through all my searches and contacts, it seems the only ones willing to deal with opiate addictions are the Drug and Alcohol services in Tasmania. Have not come across any GPs who prescribe opiate replacements. I have found the service to be awesome (if not a little busy and scripts get overlooked to the point that pharmacists have warned me about it). I have my appts on a Friday and of course I turn up at the pharmacy for my dose Saturday for the pharmacists to tell me the script hasn’t come through grrrrr now I ride them BUT Sublocade tomorrow. I really hope you have sorted it out now and have gotten in to the TAS drug and alcohol service! I would suggest that if you said you had the resources to go to the mainland and get the shot that you would be (sorry) low on their list. I really hope to hear that they have stepped up and taken you on cause that is a really rough place to be.

Hi, I know this thread is a few months old, but I have the exact same problem; I'm a lifetime Tasmanian resident who goes to Melbourne for heart issues, by luck the D&A guys at the RMH were able to get me in literally *immediately* after my open heart surgery and get me on sublocade. It have saved. my. life.

Now I gotta travel to Melbourne every month to get the shot because the D&A services and laws down here are (excuse my French) sHIT. Yeah, it's available, but it's so freaking hard to get that it may as well not be available. The first time I was on the list for D&A in Tas, it was over year when they rang me - not for an appointment, but just to see if I *still* wanted to be on the waiting list. I was literally told that basically I would just have to keep taking drugs until they could get me in.

The guys in Melbourne are awesome every time and when I say it saved my life; it saved my damn life. I know I've gotta do what I've gotta do. I know it's *cheaper* than drugs. But it's still money that no one should have to spend, no one who is making an *active effort* to get clean and start living a better life. I'm still trying to find someone in Tas to help. Are you still going with your search?

I feel so disheartened and let down by a state that has shunned me for being an addict, but also offered no help.

So sorry it is so shit down there. My buvidal doc in Melb has gone on indefinite leave, but the practice has a nurse who can administer it. I am very lucky. It is a life changing treatment.
