[TV Thread] What's worth watching ATM? v. now it's 2024

I tried Dark some time ago. I wasn't even pissed or stoned but I struggled with it. It was often only after a few episodes or towards the end of seasons 1 and 2 that I had got to grips with what had happened.

BUt then I'd have to start all over again as a further level of inter generational timetravel backwards and forwards was introduced in the next series.. BY the time i got to the start of season 3, it was just like a complete WT actual F is going on now and I gave up in frustartion after 2 episodes of being so confused that I lost my patience as I did not find it enjoyable to be so completely lost and mentally stretched beyond my limits. I may try it again at some point, but I rarely found the series actually enjoyable although I could admire it many ways. The settings, , the storlylines, the cleverness of it all.

It should have been 'up my street' and it was in many ways, but maybe I'm just weird or maybe it was just over my head. I don't enjoy being challenged too much by TV or films. Books too I guess. Music yeah, but not the other mediums so much. Although I have found with certain books that stretch you, if you can perservere you can reach the point where things start to make sense there is a satisfaction at that point. It's probably the same with 'complicated' films and TV.

The subtitles didnt help either tbh. Having to read and process those at the same time as trying to take in the bigger picture made it even harder to follow. The shite English dubbing was not a good option.

I guess all that says more about me than the series, although I guess my reaction was quite normal and ordinary.

I keep meaning to finish The Rain on Netflix. Recently started rewatching The 100, which starts off a bit teen sci-fi but soon picks up. Never finished it mind, but watched the first season and a bit of the second.

Altered Carbon is worth a watch, also on Netflix.

Shadow and Bone was really good, Netflix.

3%, amazing, Netflix.

Colony, Netflix. Only the first two seasons though. Season three is easy to find if you can point your browser to a torrent website. Was cancelled after the third season though, and left on a bit of a cliff hanger, rude.

Snowpiercer, Netflix. But watch the film before the series. I have a lot of love for the books and the original film, the series not so much. Mainly down to choice of actors. But still worth a watch.

Lost in Space, Netflix. No, not the film(s), they’ve made it into a series and it’s pretty good. Though I hate the actor who they cast as Dr. Smith.

In From The Cold, Netflix. Pretty good if you like a shape shifting woman who used to work for the kgb and now the cia, with shady underhand stuff. No bobs and vegene though, which lets it down as there’s some lesbo scenes. For shame.

Hannibal was a very very good series I thought. Very dark and genuinely eerie and chilling at times.

Unfortunately, Netflix cancelled it after 3 seasons (when it still had a long way to run) due to declining viewing figures and the commercial pressures that caused.

It has a great cast, amazing settings, and the production quality is of a high quality film rather than a TV series. It's very interesting the way it goes into into a lot of depth about the back stories of all the main characters, especially the empath Will Graham, and the nature of Hannibal himself.

Another interesting series was "Freud", which seemed potentially very good too. The story is only very loosely based on the actual Sigmund Freud and there was a lot of "creative licence" in the TV series. I didn't stick with it for various reasons on my first attempt to watch it, (I only got 2 or 3 episodes in) but I would return to it at some point when I am in the mood and have the energy to invest in a new series and re-start it from the start.

I have restarted watching Westworld from Season 1 again due to this being published a few weeks ago...

Yeh, I totally get what you're saying. I very nearly gave up halfway through season 2 because I was struggling to keep up with all the characters. I find it hard remembering who's who in fairly basic shows, but when those characters are played by different actors to represent their ages spread over a century, it all got a bit too much.

But after a few days, I persevered and seemed to have finally assimilated the overload of information into something I could just about understand.

Currently on episode 2 of season 3 and its all gone fuckin weird again.

Also, I'm watching the dubbed version but also have the subtitles turned on because the sound on my TV is pretty shit (either that or I'm going deaf). But often, the dubbing and subtitles are totally different, which just adds yet another layer of confusion onto an already confusing series.

That was the episode where I gave up on it. But I can tell that it's a quality show so I probably will try it again at some point.

The first time I watched The Wire, most of the time I was thinking, "who is that character again" and "how are they connected to x y and z" . I got into it so much more on second viewing having got the basics sussed out at least obviously helps in knowing wtf is going on. I've watched The Wire at least 3 times now as there is so much to take in, and there's probably still things I've missed.

Dark may be similar in some ways and make more sense after repeated viewings for people like me who find it over their heads on first viewing.

In the past months I caught up on S2 of "Raised by Wolves" - a little disappointing compared to the first imo

I am up to date on "The Boys" - it's alright

This weekend I caught up on S6 of "Peaky Blinders" - which is good but totally overrated/has had the arse dragged out of it too much

even back in the days all used to be on TV were either merlin or random star trek that people thought that they were watching the seasons in order and they really did, 2010's were a bit of "merged" together nosene..

Netlix series:
Resident Evil new 8 episode series
Money Heist
Fauda
Blacklist

New Movies on Netflix:
Outpost (modern war/afghanistan combat)
Carter (action)

I thought resident evil was shockingly shite. A black guy playing Wesker, come on!

Watched Carter last night. Lots of inconsistencies in it. In the starting bit, he’s got a black little thong on, once he jumps through the window, it’s green. Obvious parts throughout the whole film that have cut and chopped together, some ropey cgi explosives 🧨

Don’t watch the dubbed version though, the voice acting is awful.

I forgot how brilliant Stranger Things is, and just how much I enjoy it.

I recently renewed my Netfix and tried to resume the series from the start of Season 4, but due to the lengthy break since last watching I couldn't remember what the hell had happened previously.

So I re-started from the start of S3, but I have enjoyed those first few episodes so much that I've decided it definitely merits a re-watch right from the start. I think it was Ep3 or 4 of S3 that I watched last night and I got proper chills from those sequences with Ell telepathically transporting herself into the consciousness of others involved in some very dark goings on.

The series is a fantastic mix of 80s childhood nostalgia, with some mind blowing paranormal stuff going on. Great story lines and believable and very likeable central characters in the kids and the adults.

It's definitely in my top 5 TV series of all time. Top Marks. It's one of those shows that grips you so much even the opening credits and musical score gives you a dopamine rush due to the anticipation of the rewards..

Not TV but I can't be arsed to search anymore 'coz I was on page 10 and I've not gone further than that on Pornhub so I won't be starting here. Mods, feel free to do the leg work for me.

Thought @Zopiclone bandit may like this one.
