UK - Teenagers injecting mephedrone 'to cope with psychological issues'

A drugs charity has claimed that teenagers across Britain are injecting the 'party drug' mephedrone as a way of dealing with psychological problems.

In some cases, said charity DrugScope, teenagers are injecting mephedrone - which is also known as meow meow - more than 20 times per day.

It added that more teenagers are coming forward with behavioral issues associated with the drug, including panic attacks, paranoia and a loss of control.

DrugScope said that a particularly worrying trend is that people who would never consider injecting drugs such as heroin are taking mephedrone.

‘All indicators of drug use show an overall decline but there’s no room for complacency,’ said DrugScope's chief executive Martin Barnes.

'But as our survey shows, there is no room for complacency on this.

'With the arrival of drugs such as mephedrone and the whole array of synthetic cannabis compounds and other new drugs, we may well have a drug scene in transition.'

Mr Barnes said that the rise in injecting was especially worrying, as it could lead to blood-borne viruses such as hepatitis C.

The virus already affects more than 40% of injecting drug users.

'To continue to describe (mephedrone) as a 'party' or 'club drug' risks downplaying the harms associated with its use,' Mr Barnes said.

This is why it's up to injecting drug users to become educated about how to avoid contracting Hep C and HIV.

I have injected a lot, and don't have Hep C nor HIV.

So im guessing that in the uk street dealers are selling what they say is mephdrone but what is it?? I thought China stopped production totally of Mephdrone I cant find it anywheres at all. So is this a serious article or just another media driven attack on RC's??

mephedrone is still very common in the uk, product sold has same effects as pre ban stuff
only difference is that the price has doubled
