[DMT Subthread] First Time

Cheers for the quick reply! As far as vaping it goes, would chasing it off foil suffice?
There are some useful threads here about how to make a "machine"(a proper DMT pipe)
Here's one :D
I've done the whole "sandwich" thing a number of times and yes it has gotten me where I wanted to go. But you asked if there would be any waste and I had to be honest.
Have fun and be safe <3

Yeah for sure, there is some waste -- and the machine is an incredible little device. But the "sandwich method" will definitely take you there, and its easy. Both methods are gonna lead to a lifetime of astonishment, just knowing your mind is capable of such preposterous tomfoolery. :D

Advice on first time DMT trip

I'll shortly be smoking DMT with some close friends for my first time and, as only one of the group has experience with the substance I have a few questions that hopefully someone will be able to advise me on.

1) I currently take an SSRI (Sertraline). Are there any known interactions with smokable crystal DMT or is this just with the MAOI you would need to combine an oral form of DMT with?

2) My friend who has experience with this says he smoked it previously using a weed pipe. Are there better methods, i.e. using a home-made bottle bong of some description using tin foil?

3) It it necessary to use ash as a type of 'buffer'?

4) Is it okay to titrate my doses up within the same night as I become accustomed to it or will this lead to diminished returns and render a breakthough experience later in the evening difficult/impossible?

5) Any other handy tips for first time use?

Thanks for reading, any input greatly appreciated.

1.) I have heard of SSRI's dulling the experience of serotonergic psychedelics, but if you aren't smoking changa (which has MAOI's) you will be fine.

2.) I've broken through easy using a weed pipe, if your technique is good it is a very good method

3.) Ash or some plant matter as buffers are very useful, otherwise the DMT may drip into your pipe when it melts, the point of the buffer is too absorb the liquid dmt

4.) It is possible, I find an hour and a half to two hours for my tolerance to smoked dmt to decrease.

5.) Don't forget your space suit

I'm thinking of doing DMT for the first time in the near future (50mg) but I'm little scared, I heard it can be total hell. But I've also heard that when you have broken through there actually is no concept of 'fear'? What do you guys say?

It's totally possible.
I've felt fear many times when I'm in hyperspace but imo you're always back before you know it so it never amounts to anything

It's costly stuff and none of the above is designed for the job. Buy a DMT pipe - it wastes no material if used properly. Pays for itself after the first gram.

Oh - and remember it's the best material known to man IMO ;-)

Lol at response number 5! :)

I watched video on youtube where the DMT is effectively vaporised on a few folded layers of tin foil with the fumes being contained within a 2 litre bottle. No holes are required in the foil as the flames heat the DMT from underneath the foil with the DMT placed on top. I think this should suffice for a first time but I'll definitely look into a pipe if I enjoy the experience and expect to repeat it more often.

So do you reckon jumping in with both feet is a good idea then or starting small? I have moderate experience with hallucinogens and extensive experience with dissociatives.

You don't need to jump in head first per se but Maybe 25-30mg is a good starting point.
Sub breakthrough doses can be very powerful experiences as well.

i prefer glass pipes you heat at the bottom to vaporize the dmt within. but just smoking it from tinfoil with a (heatresistant) straw also works well ime.

i recommend starting small. you can always smoke more later, but you cannot take less in hindsight :). some people can reach a breakthrough by titrating their dose upwards through repeated dosing, others have to wait a certain amount of time until they can breakthrough again. but as holy toast said, sub-breakthrough experiences can also be quite beautiful and intense.

So, I thought it might draw a suitable conclusion to this thread by describing my first experience last night....

I smoked an amount of around 30mg to begin with just so I could get a flavour of what might be to come. This definitely put me in a psychedelic headspace with mild 'melting' type visuals and a relaxed body high, accompanied by a strange feeling of familiarity. After feeling comfortable with this dose I decided to go for a breakthrough and upped my dose to around 60mg. I laid back in a beanbag and took just one big hit from the pipe and held in for as long as I could. A friend then relieved me of the pipe and I lay back as the room began to melt at which point I had an overwhelming urge to close my eyes, so I did. I was then immediately thrust through the circular chrysanthemum patterns I'd heard so much about and it very much felt like I was travelling somewhere. Before I could comprehend what was happening I broke-through. I was initially overwhelmed by what I was experiencing and this seemed to attract some harlequin/jester type entities that seemed to have bad intentions and wanted to completey freak me out, feeding off my fear. Just as it was starting to feel like it was all too much, a very different entity made itself known to me. This being was in the form of a cat and was much, much more powerful then the harlequins, who might as well have been pond scum compared to this beautiful and gentle feline creature. It had a massively calming influence on me communicating that there was nothing to fear before showing me various impossible shapes and colours, moving in ways that physics wouldn't allow and it seemed genuinely interested in my well-being - sort of like a nursery teacher. I realised I was in the presence of an intelligence I couldn't even begin to understand and I felt a smile come over me as I interacted with this creature.

As things progressed, other elaborate entities, including an owl made themselves known and all were interested in showing me what they could do and at this point I had collected myself and was able to enjoy the visions and fully appreciate their beauty. As the effects started to wear off some female, impish type characters seemed to know this and started saying goodbye to me in their own special way and I tried to cling on to this for a long as possible.

After fully emerging a few minutes later I knew the experience had changed my belief system completely and all I could mutter to my friends was 'there is something else!' Before the trip I was completely sceptical about communicating with these beings and thought I'd be able to rationalise it in terms of the drugs effect but after this experience I cannot explain it in any other way than to accept that these entities exist and are very real.

Throughout the whole experience there was a real sense of familiarity and truth in everything and a feeling of 'this is how it's always been' but we are somehow blind to it in normal reality. It blows me away to think that only a very small privileged few have had a glimpse of this and everyone else are going about their lives without this knowledge not knowing that these things exist!

If anyone else has encountered the beings I mentioned I'd be really interested to hear your account of it.

Sounds like a wonderful journey :D

Yes I have met entities many times on DMT, but rarely if ever malevolent ones. I agree with Holy Toast that typically on DMT feelings like fear are not out of the picture like they can be on say ketamine. But instead there is so much experience (sights, entity contact, geometries and physics demonstrated, remembrance, imagination unfolding) that there is literally no time to realize the nature or implications of being scared or overwhelmed. The feelings seem to be mostly suspended and cannot be reflected upon. Usually when the flash or trip settles down a euphoric afterglow takes over, and I would also call being comforted relatively common. In my experience it can be entities or even spiritual or godlike things such as the cosmos as a whole that can counter emotions like fear, sadness, pain and other (potential) traumata.

In my case, the beings and the whole DMT hyperspace empathized with me after a loved one died. Telepathic communication is also commonly reported on DMT which I do not find surprising since it is your mind interacting with itself at least IMO. I am still as utterly mindblown when I believe that all of it is manifested by the mind.
So, everything I encountered sensed that I was in mourning and they joined me in my sorrow until I was cradled. The effect was that of sharing something difficult with a close friend, that compassion and catharsis which grounds and supports the healing process. Only the effect on DMT was with entities and greatly amplified.

Normally for me the entities are integral cogs of their world. A bit like servants such as oompa loompa's. They are extremely playful (which is entirely consistent with unbound imagination). I think they are meta-programs that can operate in the mind similar to how you can operate in a full-blown lucid dream. Not sure if you ever had them, but in my most lucid dreams I can manipulate my entire world. I can transform all "matter" or information, including the landscape or setting and the entities / people present.
When a person assumes all power and control in a lucid dream like that, it undermines the integrity of the dream. When a dream becomes unstable you wake up from it. But there are entities / agents that try to protect the integrity of the dream. From what I remember a little futile since I was able to transform even those agents. But anyway: movies like Inception, the Matrix or Dark City are not pulling shit out of their ass, I believe. Apparently I am just not the first to meet those agents by a long shot. Whether it is lucid dreaming without any drug involved or using DMT, I think the entities or agents are meta-programs of the mind, like subconscious subroutines. It doesn't seem like such a strange idea to me that they evolved for similar reasons that our inner monologue or dialogue did. To help streamline the side-effects of the consciousness being integrated into a coherent state yielding from cooperating subcircuits. When one mental process becomes actively involved in other process I think some processes / programs / forms can assume mentally projected entities as unified messages that can intervene and interact.
I think these entities are able to manipulate hyperspace (the mental domain with no boundaries and few rules) just like I mentioned with lucid dreams, they have been reported to make and show presents. Non-Euclidean art maybe ;) I have seen them manifest transforming out of objects (that may or may not exist in reality) or back into objects. Sometimes I see a string of random things unfold, this usually does happen in a circus-like or carnivalesque way: I might see a smurf turning inside out into a boucquet of flowers melting into a puddle on the floor which expands in ways that are impossible to describe spatially or otherwise. The entities can participate in this IME, they are not more or less of a person than the objects that are lifeless in reality... again consistent with the idea that it is all mental material and nothing appears to be more real than anything else, at least a priori. Witnessing some things definitely give us a stronger sense of novelty than other things though. =D

Your anxiety may manifest itself as an entity when imagination is taken to a whole other level and leading 'a life of its own'. But the mind is extraordinarily good at coping and will ultimately summon what you need. I think our minds know how to look after themselves only we normally limit ourselves so much that the mind is not allowed to use that potential. On DMT there are far fewer restrictions, if any... and that allows the mind interacting with itself (somewhat fragmented though apparently still with a functional central executive) to be exceedingly wise. You may say intelligent but not intellectually, instead relating to human nature.
IMO these kinds of explanations, more rational than some rather esoteric (even if appealing) explanations, don't necessarily have to take away the magic or make it less meaningful. I think the stunningly wise and intelligent spirit of a DMT is a mix of the nature of our mind and the nature of DMT interacting. The emergent consciousness to me seems more than a sum of the parts, I recognize this hybrid resultant as a great being and even though my own mind is an ingredient in it there are many differences, and I feel privileged to learn from it.
(And by the way when I said for example 'cosmos' earlier, I meant the mental projection of that just like I meant it when talking about such other things)

Regarding harlequins, I know what you mean - it seems to be the same theme as the carnivalesque things I described, though much more alien than any circus on our planet. I think this is a nice pic:

Honestly, you could have written this for me, it explains most of my (smoked) DMT experiences and led me to conclude it as mostly something I just don't get/I like 5-MeO-DMT better.

My last go however, I was with a VERY special person whom I am quite fond of, did the hit of DMT and began to see this fuchsia colored cube/square (actually it was made of MANY cubes and squares) thing unravel and at that point I realized this was no entity, it was that very special person in my DMT trip, and she unraveled herself and sang to me, her voice and everything. A very personal experience but from the standpoint of 'novelty, that was weird psychedelic' vs 'this is an amazing tool, I am merging with her soul psychedelic' I finally got the latter and it was VERY VERY good for me to experience what I did.

That was really the one and only time I ever had a (smoked) DMT experience mean something to me.....

Others have called the entities 'helpers and messengers' but I never got there, they were always just strange and weird to me. I haven't used DMT since but I hope I get more experiences like the last one. :)

I second solipsis.
imo DMT puts you in front of a (magnifying) mirror. from this perspective the forms/visions/entities you encounter under its influence are manifestations of the psyche.
if you deepen your relationship with DMT, you might learn to navigate and integrate those phenomena as they happen.
the whole thing is dose dependent: low doses shed light on every day neuroses, take more and face the deeper roots of your behavior (usually rejected stuff, loaded with fear), even more and universal archetypes (in the jungian sense) start to pop up [what you describe is between this and the former "stage" OP], still more and the whole thing loses its structure with yourself ending up in infinite consciousness.

my reception of DMT has turned from the "put universe into cannon, aim at brain..."-perspective to this "psychological tool"-perspective. and DMT is the ultimate tool in this regard. especially when under the influence of a MAOi. so precise and controllable...

btw: build yourself a "machine". ime there is no other way to smoke DMT. if 30mg put you into a "psychedelic headspace with mild 'melting' type visuals and a relaxed body high" you are clearly wasting material. 30mg can be enough to put me into the archetype stage. what you describe sounds like ~10-15mg...

always listen carefully to your mind and body, when dealing with DMT. DMT is remarkably self-regulating. as if it tells you when to go there and when to leave it alone for some time. if you take this relationship serious, DMT can be a life-long ally.

You guys see the recent research on DMT and other dimensions/aliens? No, I'm serious. If anything, people are taking a scientific approach to it the same way we do with dreams.

I'll grab the links from my FB page next time I am there.

Based on your experiences do you believe you were actually interacting with other sentient beings or is the whole thing an elaborate charade manifested by the mind? For me, it just felt too honest and real to be explained as a product of my own psyche.

It was smoked, sandwiched in a bed of sage using a cannabis pipe so, I completely agree - it was hardly ideal.

Interesting reading what you say around 'it telling you when to go there' as I had planned to smoke it all last night however it just felt like it would have been wrong of me to do so. For this reason I plan to get a good nights sleep tonight and go in completely alone tomorrow as I really think I will get more out of it this way. What better way to spend a day off work than to reacquaint myself with these interesting entities. Just hope they play nice. :D

To quote Hillary Clinton (but in kind, not anger), "What difference does it make?"

:) I just have come to the conclusion that it makes no difference. I know jack shit about quantum mechanics and the 4th demension so I really am not informed enough to know perhaps.

To quote George Harrison, "The more I learn the less I know."
