Hey all, I got a Rx for Wellbutrin SR. A little background history, I've been using meth on and off for about 16 years now. Started smoking it, 5 years ago started IVing it. For clean for 2 years and slipped up early January to the point where I am maintenance using pretty much every day. One small shot, once a day. I've decided I'm sick of the guilt and shame of using and it's getting pretty lonely since no one knows that I slipped so I've decided to taper off of it. I can't cut back on how many times per day since it's just once, and I can't cut back on the dose as that will be tempting to redose in the same day, so I've decided to cut back to every other day, then once every 2, every 3, etc. My question is... Wellbutrin is a trisubstituted amphetamine. Should I begin taking it while I'm tapering or should I wait until I'm done mething around? I don't want any adverse effects of either. My health is a top priority for me. Any info, tips, advice would be greatly appreciated.

The risk of having a seizure will go up if you combine the two. That being said I?ve combined the two during one of my IV meth relapses, and I didn?t have a seizure (but everybody?s different). I actually found that I didn?t need as much crystal to get to that sweet spot. My advice is to tread carefully. I?m not saying don?t combine the two- just know there are some risks

Thank you for the information. I'm kind of nervous to start taking it while still using but hoping that it'll make the withdrawal symptoms a little easier to deal with. I've been researching, but a Google search only comes up with so much. Several years ago when I was much heavier in my meth use I would experience seizures...small gaps of unconscious time frequently when I didn't or couldn't come up on any. Which was scary and of course made the addict in me believe that I needed it.

Another question. I'm not considering it but just curious, have you, or anyone else on here, ever abused Wellbutrin? Via intranasal and/or injection? Google search did come back with a lot of links of Wellbutrin abuse calling it the "poor man's cocaine".

I?ve never banged it or snorted it, but I have taken super therapeutic doses 600-750mg (450mg is the ceiling therapeutic dose) honestly at those high doses the norepinephrine way overpowers any dopamine push you might receive, lots of uncomfortable anxiety etc.
maybe just take it on your days off just to provide a little boost/ help with the comedown etc

Oh yeah for sure, just saying I have tried to abuse bupropion before to no avail. Seizure risk aside, the side effects like anxiety far outweigh any possible dopamine high you might receive. This is one of those drugs you take correctly or not at all. I?ve read threads about people IV?ing this compound and just can?t imagine it, but mutant drug fiends must exist somewhere out in the freak kingdom

I used to snort Wellbutrin when I was in prison, and being in that environment, there is a minimal buzz, short lived, but yes pointless. It does indeed kill my appetite for cigarettes. And I am proof that it helps for cocaine cravings...well let me explain that one...I was having severe crack cocaine cravings, and eventually started smoking crack, my first hit I took, I remember as I was exhaling I was waiting for that orgasmic pleasurable rush to set in, but instead I had felt absolutely disgusted where I wanted to gag, same concept of having a cigarette on Wellbutrin. After that, I put the pipe down. The problem with it being used for cocaine cravings is that I had severe cravings for cocaine daily even on Wellbutrin, it took me relapsing to realize it's not enjoyable.
 
The seizure risk is incorrect and very overvalued. Single IR doses anecdotally cause no problems up to 500-600, if you take more than 1500mg a day IR I would try to throw in an antiseizure prophylactic. The reason for the scare was a botched double blind trial using 450 on drug naive people who may have been a majority of very slow CYP metabolizers.
 
I’ve recently become aware of the increase in reported cases of IV bupropion (Wellbutrin XR). Years ago I impulsively and unfortunately discovered that this drug can indeed be very powerful when injected. For approx. 2 months I used it regularly as a substitute for IV cocaine.
I’d only recently begun IV’ing my heroin daily, coke 1-2x a week. So I’d enough experience to nearly always hit, and with relative ease as my veins, my beautiful veins were still, well... still there. Visible & functioning as designed. Their destruction was swift and severe. Each shot was more painful than the last. And the few times I did miss resulted in dramatic skin/tissue damage. I am beyond grateful I didn’t cause any abscesses.

In that brief time, I effectively destroyed every close to the surface visible vein in my body. Due to collapse and blow outs and whatever other forms of damage, jumping ahead to now 5 years later, Ive not a single vein which can be seen. Getting bloodwork done is a nightmare. Even expert phlebotomists throw their their arms up and summon a veteran‘s help- while I sit and sit there- ahuman pin cushion. An anomaly who is a subject of remarks and gawking by medical professionals.

If anyone is considering using this drug via the IV ROA please know it’s extremely likely that you will face a high degree of negative consequences, as well open a door to a potentially gruesome perhaps even fatal end.

Ok, so my recent background of drug use and current is 8g’s kratom in the evening, xanax as prescribed, and the research chemical o-desmethyltramadol which I only use once a week now. (Financial reasons)

Thats it... until simultaneously the fates of being a past junky conspired against me.
Ive been having strong fatigue issues and spoke to my doc who put me on Wellbutrin to try to help. Around this time I came across some syringes in my own home (well, I live with my mom hehe). She breeds cattle and sometimes gives em vitamin shots. They were mostly unusable 16g, but alas, there was 1 single 25 I could manage with.

So I crushed a 150mg pill squirted hella water on it (luer lock held like 12cc) and double filtered through cotton. Lined the rig up to were I used to IV yeeears ago and drew blood. I injected all but a little of it to see if I was still in the vein, nothing. Complete painless miss. Tried again several times but for some reason the rig kept clogging.

Come to find out Wellbutrin itself is a coagulant! So as soon as you register it coagulates the blood in the barrel unless you’re quick draw McGraw.

Anyway the miss left me with a lump, a numb lump. I wait 3 days till this morning when I wake up with extreme pain in my arm. All over the top part and there’s minor swelling and pain in my wrist.

I said fuck this I am NOT losing an arm. I ran to the ER and told them everything. They did blood cultures, found minor for now traces of bacteria, and put me on IV antibiotics and sent me home with a script for oral ones.

The needle ritual is hard to break... even almost 4 years away from one and just the sight and possession of one caused all this grief. Moral is DONT IV WELLBUTRIN way too dangerous and so not worth the risk.

i was weak and foolish and won’t EVER touch that needle again, God help me. Just thought I’d share this to spread the word that this is riskier than shooting normal pills. Don’t do it if you value your veins and limbs. And life.

OK this post was 2017, any updates? I have a fixation with needle, finally kicked the Delaudid habit, but started with Wellbutron; major rush! I realize dangerous. Did you get over the needle fixation? I am having a harder time with that then getting off opiods. Somebody/Anybody?
 
dam i was rxed 150mg every morning i hate uppers it feels like a extended release ritalin to me i hate ittttt
 
I love Wellbutrin. Used to abuse it beyond belief. Was prescribed 300mg a day and it was great for my bipolar depression and undiagnosed ADD.
 
I made the mistake of iv'ing 300mg the last two days (and day2 I took my usual 300mg dose orally in the early am in addition) so the first time I missed slightly (using a 25g 1" rig so I tended to go through the vein I presume as it was hard for me to "hover" and stay in the vein) but didnt feel it much until after and it was just a little tender around the injection site, I had some weird skin discoloration, like a whiter than my arm line kinda following a vein and a splotch by injection site. I did get a small rush followed by mostly unpleasant anxiety, I also took 900mg of gabapentin in 300mg doses staggered 30-45 mins as mentioned in this thread for anticonvulsant. not sure if its relevant but I recently started buprenorphine to help my IV heroin addiction and I do struggle a lot with needle fixation. For some weird reason considering my first experience was mostly negative I figured if I actually hit it would be better. bad choice- I registered and got the first bit in same as last time but went through the vein again and missed some behind it, it didnt hurt or feel like a miss when it occured but when I pulled the needle out I knew because it got sore/tender again in a different spot next to the first(the first one got less painful after I slept/time passed) but this one got wayy more inflamed and a larger bump also a lot more painful, the lighter skin discoloration didnt happen the second time but it is a purpley/bruise color. I took 300mg gabapentin again, and Ive been taking clonodine throughout this/with it. I have done hot and cold compresses and ill do more. not sure if anyone will see this and its long af im sorry but one of the posts about tissue damage/skin damage stressed me a lil so im starting a week antibiotic round of 4x500mg cephalexin incase I have any bacteria in there (i used a clean needle this time, i just had some badd cellulitis from reusing rigs too long so i try to avoid that now because i got nerve damage in my hand still from it) the antibiotic script is actually left over from an abscess i had months ago, i only took 3 days worth (youre supposed to do 10 days not 7) because i was too dopesick to keep them down so i saved them for a time such as this. i read this thread and purposely ignored every one that said its high risk low reward but I tried it anyways and its really strange i was compelled to do it twice but i really hope this time i have learned my lesson. also i really dont want to hurt my last best vein.
 
Just came here to say: never ever IV tabs! I know, so many people do it these days for some reason. Have heard that on the German drug cenes, where I spent a lot of time in the past, people don't ven filter as they believe it's not more dangerous then injecting other stuff. Once their needle is cloaked, they just exchange the needle and make another whole!!!! Don't do IT!
Also, if you IV use at least a sterile syringe filter with the right membrane (0.2 mm pores), for making sterile water solution. You've only got this one life! No need to fuck up arms and legs so much they can only amputate in hospital to safe you! Or imagine you have a severe stroke or heart attack or the infections becomes systemic... NOT WORTH IT!
 
Yes, everyone please stop IVing tabs, Wellbutrin included. I can get a pretty solid buzz off of plugging 300-400 mg ER buproprion that lasts about two hours and feels like a dysphoric heart attack, and the biggest risk, aside from possible seizure, is blowing diarrhea all over my floor if i don't make it to the toilet in time. no ER visit necessary.

if you get a lump from shooting something that won't go away, place a hot pad over it for the next 36 hours to raise circulation and reduce swelling, this works when things are still sterile. The Getting Off Right .pdf guide to safe use and care is a pretty good file to keep handy as well
