The ‘gateway drug’ is alcohol, not marijuana

I have noticed that most of the people I know that abuse cocaine are alcoholics, and dont enjoy marijuana. Also, a lot of people who smoke pot habitually dont care for cocaine.

sorry about that. I entirely missed that potential meaning.

But yeah: babies that are formula-fed are usually glutted past satiety, whereas breastfed babies stop taking milk as soon as they are full.

I dont drink but iv smoked for 24 years

that's fucked up. Cigarettes are the devil. I'd rather roll up a cig with fresh unadulterated tobacco ,which is okay, or smoke weed all day long
Instead of hash or coke with tobacco, which would be awesome, you're buying, smoking and fucking yourself up with all kinds of shit they put in it:

This is a brilliant article. And the Front Page of Bluelight looks awesome now - great reads, the mom and marijuana / alcohol =) perfect. Legalize marijuana!!!! that first.

Gateway drug is such a ignorant term. It is the media that has demonized drugs. There are no good or bad drugs and all drugs do have a use it is just some are more powerful and must be used in controlled settings by professionals. Legalize it all and you will destroy the cartels ,gangs ,and terrorists in one shot.THe real gateway is advertisments ,media ect

Your first experience with any mind altering substance occurs from your association wih the set of people you run with.If its the heroin crowd it will be heroin. My association was with polydrug users and I did whatever they put on the table. And the choice of the crime a person chooses to carry out works in the same way.The gateway theory is bullshit.

^ like when you come home on acid and can't work out how to unlock your front door?
shit, i had cops wandering around the front of my building (for reasons unrelated to me) the one time i had a problem with that. awkward, but i got there in the end...no harm done.

This is so good to hear. and i so agree with it. When i used to smoke pot, i didn't really want to do other drugs. But whenever i drink, I want to do coke or crystal or pills. I knew that i wasn't the only one that thought like that. Alcohol is bad in so many ways. It's a shame that people fail to realize that. If pot was legal in my state, i'd go back to smoking everyday again...Well, maybe not everyday, but i'd def. go back to smoking. I'm not smoking now because i'm in a program that drug tests me, so i can't have "Illegal" drugs in my system, :(

Thank you someone that has said it! Im a stoner and have been for the past 5 years. Every now and then id get drunk but it was never a usual thing, just at parties and clubs. For those 5 years of getting high i would never of thought about taking another drug (whilst stoned). Then the day when im at a house party fucked on drink (and weed but i highly doubt weed had nothing to do with it) i get offered some Mephedrone, obvs i didnt think about it, i just did it. Later on i consumed 2 more lines of pure mdma that was in the rock form and it was probably just under a gram that i took. Holy shit did my nose sting but for some reason iv always liked the stinging nose it seems to give me a instant rush haha its like when you take a fat toke on a spliff and it goes straight to your head... anyways i would never of even imagined of doing drugs whilst just stoned it wouldve been too scared. Weed=The thinking drug. Alcohol=The doing drug

I've always stood by this theory.
Funny isn't it that when i first smoked weed i was smashed out my face on drink + certainly wouldn't of tried it if i wasn't.

Alcohol is the first gateway drug, because it is so accepted and prevalent in society.
But cannabis is one of the most common first "illegal" drugs that people use (partly because it is a relatively mild overall change of consciousness at standard smoked doses, partly because it so available, and partly because it is the least stigmatized illegal drug)

What do you all think are the other most common "first illegal drugs"?

And how is someone's "first illegal drug" different from a "gateway drug"?
Meph. Seriously it's easier to pick up 5g of mephedrone than an eighth of bud in my town these days and I'm sure the stats would reflect it.

In my opinion there is no gateway drugs. People have drugseeking behavior by default; orgasm, NetFlix, Spotify, mp3s, torrents, heroin, ketamin. In modern sociery we no longer fit in our biological roles as male or women so we got all these spare time to seek comfort. Jesus christ you guys are making too big deal out of all of thise.

The world is implicitly anarachistic.
Live and let live.
End of fucking discussion, for real, true.

Lol. Seconded

I still stand by my opinion that the first addictive anything everyone is subjected to is sugar. From a very young age, we begin to equate candy and such with pleasure. That if we're good, mommy will buy us that sugary snack we love. When we're sick, we are soothed with said snacks in an attempt to, well, soothe us. Even now, if I have a fibro flare up and I'm hungry, I'll always look for a comfort food. Detest living with this disease.

I think wanting to get altered is the gateway and nothing else. A big thing that turned me onto the idea when I was younger was that it was expressly forbidden, and I gravitated toward rebellious behaviour. The other thing is that I am naturally attracted to esoteric knowledge and experiences. Anything "hidden" really peaks my curiosity. Users come in all styles but I found that drug users tended to be more open minded while they were high and they talked about the kinds of things I was interested in vs. the mundane shit of every day life like at school.

Drug users are already outsiders, which means they tend to be aware (politically, socially, historically, etc.) of things that the mainstream doesn't know or care about. That was the major attraction for me. As a sub-culture they knew about things forbidden and hidden. That also made it seem like doing drugs gave them special knowledge, and after years of trying different things, I realized they did.

Also, even though it might be temporary and drug induced, I also experienced the most love and affection from drug users in the early days while my family, peers, and school teachers weren't very influential.

The first recreational drug I ever tried was alcohol and I hated it. Closed the book on that one. The first one I took and enjoyed was MDMA, even before trying weed. I did it because the venue was a rave and it was what everyone else was doing, so it came highly recommended. The first time I smoked weed I barely even got high, and the second time (months later) I got so high that I didn't even know where I was or how to navigate reality. It didn't sit well with me so I didn't smoke it until years later.

Seems to me that if someone likes getting fucked up then they're going to seek it out, but it also helps when the people who do it tend to be fellow rebels who are giving the finger to authority, slipping away secretly into the trees during school recess, and lighting a joint. It also doesn't help when your parents are pill poppers and they make it seem like the solution to lifes problems is to take a prescription drug. Kind of sets the tone for your own investigations.

^I think most depressants make a person less cautious. The appetite is always there, but when sober we suppress it.
